Tennis Elbow/ Pain and Prevention

ORTHOPEDICS/SHOULDER & ELBOW/ELBOW DISORDERS

Tennis elbow is a disorder due to the tendons irritation on the elbow outside.

These tendons can usually become irritated with performing a various activities and not only with playing tennis.

In fact, commonly with simple lifting of objects can contribute to the painful signs addressing the tennis elbow damage.

Lifting objects properly may be helpful avoiding such painful signs.

Tennis Elbow: Lifting properly

Patients with tennis elbow may lift any object such a bag, purse, or toolbox in the palm-up position. This correct movement relieves stress on the tendons that are irritated.

The explanation is that the muscles and tendons used to steady the wrist joint are the wrist flexor muscles and not the wrist extensor muscles.  The wrist extensors are irritated and inflamed in patients who have tennis elbow.

Tennis Elbow: Lifting improperly

Lifting a bag, purse, or toolbox, in the palm-down position may cause  stress to the tendons that are irritated in patients with tennis elbow.

Regrettably, lifting with the palm-down hand position is easier and usually more natural and this is the cause of the stress caused to the tendons.

Patients must think about how to lift objects before picking them up!
