Chronic Inflammation

Constantly Recurring

Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation, pain, and stiffness in any joint of the body. Swelling, warmth, and tenderness may also accompany the pain. This may either be due to a degenerative disorder of normal wear and tear of the body or an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s own healthy cells are mistakenly attacked and destroyed by the immune system. This classifies arthritis into two main types, osteoarthritis (degenerative) and rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune). In turn, this leads to recurrent chronic inflammation which will cause synovial thickening, then damaging the surrounding bone and cartilage of the joint. This will eventually lead to the breakdown of the cartilage intended to support and cushion the bones causing the bones to rub against one another and trigger irritation, inflammation, and pain. According to medical history, physical exam, and lab tests, diagnosis and treatment approach are determined. A step towards necessary treatment begins with the assessment of the severity and underlying cause of the pain. Successively, this will direct the way towards minimizing pain and further damage as well as enhancing function of the joints. Adequate recovery may be attained through medication, lifestyle adjustments, or even surgery for more severe cases.
