MCL Tears/Therapy and Recovery

ORTHOPEDICS/HIP & KNEE/KNEE LIGAMENT DAMAGES

With every force that strikes the knee outside, the medial collateral ligament, (MCL) on the knee inner side is most frequently torn. (The MCL tries to resist from joint widening and tears).

MCL tear Therapy depends on the damage severity.

Treatment commonly starts by subsidizing pain, then working on mobility, followed by knee strengthening.

Luckily, surgery is not always necessary for an MCL tear.

In some critical cases specific, surgery may be recommended.

Grade I MCL Tears/Therapy

The MCL grade I tears generally resolve totally within a few weeks.

Therapy consists of: Relaxation, Icing, Anti-inflammatory medicines and knee trainings,

Grade II MCL Tears/Therapy

When a grade II MCL damage arises, the use of a hinged knee brace is common in early therapy.

The hinged knee brace will allow bending the knee and provide support to the damaged ligament.

Otherwise, the therapy measures are similar to those with a grade I MCL tear.

Grade III MCL Tears/Therapy

When a grade III MCL tear arises, knee brace and supports should be used until total relief.

In addition, the knee can be immobilized for a few days, and few early motion-range will help the healing procedure.

With the starting ability of bending the knee, the patient can try few early range-of-motion trainings .

MCL Tears/Surgery

MCL tears surgery still a debated topic.

Most specialists agree that for patients who complain of an insistent knee unsteadiness, despite all the appropriate nonsurgical therapy, surgery would be convincing.
