Foot Pain/Common Causes

ORTHOPEDICS/LEG, FOOT & ANKLE

Like a shock captivator, our feet absorb high pressure during a single hour of energetic exercise.

They also support almost the double of our body weight during walking or running activities.

Because of such topics, our feet are exceedingly disposed to damages.

26 bones, 33 joints, and 5 ligaments constitute a foot composition; therefore, many structures can be damaged in the foot.

Foot pain is the first sign when one of these structures is damaged or overstressed.

Plantar Fasciitis

Foot pain results most frequently from Plantar fasciitis, which is due to results irritation of a thick band of tissue known as plantar fascia that navigate to the foot bottom.

The plantar fascia connects the heel bone to the toes.

Plantar fasciitis occurs when pain navigate to the foot bottom, classically near the inner part of the heel.

With plantar fasciitis, uneasiness is more common in the morning while simply walking and with energetic exercise like running.

Plantar fasciitis physical therapy

Plantar fasciitis requires therapy assistance to lessening inflammation and evaluating the biomechanics of the foot, the ankle and the completely lower extremity.

Stretching, strengthening, and balance exercises may help plantar fasciitis recovery.

Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is a disorder labeled by a foot pain around the toes, or the ball-of-the-foot.

This disorder is known by Metatarsalgia because of the bones name in this part of the foot (metatarsals).

Metatarsalgia occurs with prolonged jumping or running activities that increased stress resulting pain and inflammation of the metatarsal bones.

Posterior Tibial Tendonitis

The posterior tibialis is the tendon that navigates courses from the inner lower leg to the foot bottom near the medial arch.

This tendon helps supporting foot’s natural arch; therefore, any irritation in this zone may be painful and may restrict walking ability with flatfoot abnormality. This disorder is called posterior tibial tendonitis.

The Therapy for this posterior tibial tendonitis may include flexibility, strength and balance exercises.

Anti-inflammatory modalities and orthotics also may help recovery.

Turf Toe

Turf toe is a twist at the great toe base.

Turf toe happens when the big toe bends back beyond its normal motion range.

Turf toe frequently happens when kicking a soccer ball (and missing the ball and chunking the ground).

Physical therapy for turf toe is almost similar to the posterior Tibial Tendonitis therapy.

It involves reducing inflammation around the foot and toe and smoothly restoring normal mobility.

Tarsal Tunnel Disorder

The Tarsal tunnel disorder happens when the principal nerve that goes to the foot is compressed by bone or tissue.

Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome is a similar condition that occurs to the wrist and called “carpal tunnel syndrome.”

With Tarsal tunnel disorder, the signs are classically felt on the foot inside and are manifested by burning, tingling, and shooting in nature.

Therapy

Physical therapy is always the first and principal way to treat foot pain. Tender stretching of the foot may help alleviating the uneasiness felt due to the above disorders.

Infrequently with plantar fasciitis, a brace is worn at night to maintain the foot in a stretched position.

Ice applying may help controlling pain and inflammation.

A Final Word

Foot pain can prevent walking normally and may restrict the ability to enjoy normal activities.
