Feet and ankles Inflammation is a very common sign occurring of diverse causes.
Medical Attention
In many cases, inflammation is something that requires medical attention.
If the inflammation has a suddenly appeared, a medical attention should always be required instantly.
Here are most common disorders that may cause foot or ankle inflammation:
- Disturbance
Foot and ankle damages that cause inflammation include ankle twists, wavering tendons, and cracks.
Chronic stress or overuse that usually lead to tendonitis, bursitis, and ligament or muscle tensions may cause inflammation as well.
- Arthritis
Arthritis, (or joint swelling), can also cause limited inflammation in the foot or ankle.
Osteoarthritis, which is an Arthritis common form, may cause random inflammation.
Gout is also another Arthritis form that classically causes severe pain, redness and swollen to the big toe joint.
- Vein Difficulties: Varicose or Spider Veins
Complications with leg veins frequently cause inflammation in the lower limbs.
Veins main job is returning deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
With advanced age, the veins may become damaged, which results in inflammation of the legs and ankles, known as venous insufficiency.
- Blood Clot: Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
Pain and inflammation in the lower leg can also present blood clot symptoms, known as a deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can lead to life-threatening worries and recommend immediate medical attention.
Disorders that enhance leg immobility can put a person at DVT risk such as air travel, leg cast, or a sickness requiring bed relaxation.
- Other risk factors:
May comprise obesity, smoking, pregnancy, use of birth control medicines, and hereditary blot coagulation disorders.
- Septicity
Skin septicity is a frequent cause of inflammation and is typically accompanied by pain and redness.
- Medical Disorders
Medical disorders are known to cause inflammation that affects legs, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, chronic sleep apnea, and diabetes complications.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is also well known for causing inflammation in the ankles and feet.
Medicines
Note that some medicines that a patient intakes for other sickness, can cause inflammation as a side effect on both legs equally.
Some of these medecines may include birth control pills or estrogen switching drugs, or testosterone drugs, or corticosteroids and other anti-inflammatory drugs such as NSAIDS, as also few blood pressure medicines, and diabetes drugs (Avandia and Actos)
Finally, alcohol abuse can also cause inflammation in both ankles and feet.
Pregnancy
Inflammation in both ankles and feet during pregnancy is very common.
It is caused by a mixture of pregnancy hormones and the growing uterus.
Inflammation in the legs can happen after giving birth as well.
Remember: Any sudden appearance of inflammation recommend immediate medical consideration, as it could show preeclampsia.
